HILYAH OF MI'RAJ

Introduction to the Art: This Hilye-i Şerif, which mainly revolves around the journey of the Prophet Muhammad known as the Isra and Mi'raj, begins traditionally with a Basmala and features a miniature depiction of the Kaaba on top, as the starting point of the Prophet's miraculous journey is the Masjid al-Haram. As the Prophet visited the Medina/Akik Valley during the Isra journey and prayed two rakats of prayer there, the Masjid al-Nabawi is depicted on the bottom right, while the Masjid al-Aqsa, the destination of the Mi'raj, is depicted on the bottom left.

The central part begins with the names of Allah, the Most Majestic, and the Prophet, surrounded by verses explaining that the sending of the Prophet is a blessing from Allah (Surah At-Tawbah 9:128) and declaring him as the last prophet (Surah Al-Ahzab 33:40). Surrounding these are verses from Surah Al-Isra (17:1, 17:31-32), verses narrating the Mi'raj from Surah An-Najm (53:1-10), verses from Surah Ash-Sharh (94:1-8) and Surah Al-Imran (3:81-82). These rings are adorned with the plea "O Messenger of Allah, intercede for us," with the seal of Prophethood stamped in between. Following this is the text of the Hilye-i Şerif, narrated by Hazrat Ali, followed by the Salat al-Tafrijiyyah, which discusses some of the magnificent qualities of the Prophet Muhammad.

The 96 blessed names of the Prophet are written in red dots, while the hadith about the Hilye-i Şerif is inscribed in the final ring. The names of the four great caliphs are written in the four corners of the central part, and the verse from Surah Al-Anbiya (21:107) "And We have not sent you, [O Muhammad], except as a mercy to the worlds" is written in place of the verses. At the end, there are the ten miracles of the Prophet Muhammad, which are said to extinguish fire if thrown into it.
